Diagnosis & Testing: Notes

NOTE: If a RWAL brake system malfunction is present and BRAKE warning light is off, soft Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) 6, 9 and 10 may be set. If soft codes are set, its necessary to use Tech 1 scan tester to diagnose RWAL brake system. DO NOT use BRAKE warning light to diagnose RWAL brake system if BRAKE light is off. Soft codes cannot be displayed with BRAKE warning light.

Trouble codes can be displayed using Tech 1 or by jumpering terminals in Data Link Connector (DLC). The DLC may also be referred to as the Assembly Line Data Link (ALDL). This is the same test connector. Using jumper wires on DLC can only be used for diagnosis if BRAKE warning light is on (hard codes stored). If BRAKE warning light is off (soft codes stored), Tech 1 must be used for RWAL brake system diagnosis. If DLC is used for diagnosis and BRAKE warning light is off, a false Code 9 may be set. Code 9 will disable RWAL brake system and turn BRAKE warning light on.
