Pinpoint Test Cm: Abs Module Communication Concern With HEV-Pcm

  1. NOTE: The HEV - PCM may also be known as the SOBDMC.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

With the ignition ON, the HEV - PCM sends messages to the ABS module over the FD-CAN. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within the allotted time frame or if the messages contain invalid data, the module sets a DTC. This can be due to a HEV - PCM failure, a circuit failure on the network or an excessive load on the network. For information on the messages sent to the ABS module by the HEV - PCM, REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
ABS U0293:00 Lost Communication With Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 'A': No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when the ABS module does not receive any messages from the HEV - PCM within the allowed time.
ABS U0293:87 Lost Communication With Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 'A': Missing Message Sets when the powertrain messages from the HEV - PCM contain invalid or faulty information.
ABS U0594:64 Invalid Data Received From Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 'A': Signal Plausibility Failure This DTC sets if the ABS module receives a fault message in the regenerative brake wheel torque message from the HEV - PCM.
ABS U0594:86 Invalid Data Received From Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 'A': Signal Invalid This DTC sets if the ABS module receives a fault message in the selectable drive mode message from the HEV - PCM.

    Possible Causes

    • Network communication concern
    • HEV - PCM

  2. CM1 CHECK THE HYBRID PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) COMMUNICATION

NOTE: They hybrid PCM may also be known as the SOBDM or the ICS module.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Press the Read Vehicle Information button to view the results of the modules communicating on the network.

NOTE: DTCs may be displayed from previous diagnostic actions.

    • Read vehicle information.

Does the hybrid PCM pass the Network Test?

Yes  RETRIEVE and RECORD all hybrid PCM DTC's. REFER to: ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN CONTROL . If there are no DTCs present in the hybrid PCM, GO to  CM3
    No  GO to  CM2
  3. CM2 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) COMMUNICATION

    • Review the results of the modules communicating on the network from the previous step.

Did the GWM pass the Network Test?

Yes  DIAGNOSE the hybrid PCM does not communicate with the diagnostic scan tool. REFER to: Communications Network in the appropriate Module Communications Network article.
No  DIAGNOSE the scan tool does not communicate with the GWM. REFER to: Communications Network in the appropriate Module Communications Network article.
  4. CM3 RECHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE FOR THE LOST COMMINATION DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE)

    • Clear the ABS module DTC's.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the ABS module self-test.

Do any of the DTC's listed in the DTC Fault Trigger Conditions table return?

    Yes  GO to  CM4
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  5. CM4 REVIEW THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE SELF-TEST FOR VOLTAGE-REALTED DTCS

    • Review the results from the ABS module self-test.

    Are DTC's U3003:16 or U3003:17 present?

Yes  For DTC U3003:16: GO to Pinpoint Test F  For DTC U3003:17: GO to Pinpoint Test A
    No  GO to  CM5
  6. CM5 CHECK FOR GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DTCS

    • Carry out the GWM self-test.

    Are any DTC's present?

Yes  DIAGNOSE the GWM DTC. REFER to: Communications Network in the appropriate Module Communications Network article.
    No  GO to  CM6
  7. CM6 CHECK FOR HYBRID PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DTCS

    • Carry out the PCM module self-test.

    Are any DTC's present?

Yes  DIAGNOSE the hybrid PCM DTC. REFER to: ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN CONTROL .
    No  GO to  CM7
  8. CM7 CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERN

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

    • Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the PCM or the ABS module. If recent service history is found:

      • Verify the correct replacement module was installed. HVBOM may be used to verify correct part fitment.
      • Verify the configuration of replacement module was correct. Re-configure the module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect.
      • Verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle. Return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the observable symptom still present?

    Yes  GO to  CM8
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  9. CM8 CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION DTCS IN OTHER MODULES

    • Ignition ON.

    • Press Read Vehicle Information button to retrieve DTC's from the vehicle.
NOTE: DTC's may be displayed from previous diagnostic actions.

    • Read vehicle information.

Is DTC U0293:xx, U0594:xx or U1026:xx set in 1 or more modules in addition to the ABS module?
