Test Procedure

  1. AB1 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL 
    • Check that the engine oil level is correct.

    Is the engine oil level correct? 

    Yes No
    RETURN to SYMPTOM CHARTS for further direction. GO to  AB2.
  2. AB2 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL MAINTENANCE INTERVALS 
    • Check the maintenance records for engine idle time, mileage and vehicle usage since the last engine oil change. Refer to the lube oil chart in the Service Information or Owner's Literature for the correct engine oil selection for temperature conditions.

    Is the engine oil maintenance up to date? 

    Yes No
    For Transit, GO to  AB3.
    For all others, GO to  AB4.
    CHANGE the engine oil and oil filter.
  3. AB3 CHECK THE DPF_LOAD_PCT PID STATE 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Access the PCM and monitor the DPF_REGEN_PCT (PER) PID.

    Is the percentage 100% or greater? 

    Yes No
    GO to  AB4. ADVISE the customer of the vehicle operating conditions necessary for diesel particulate filter regeneration.
  4. AB4 CHECK FOR AFTERMARKET PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS 
    • Check for aftermarket exhaust accessories and performance modifications.

    Is a concern present? 

    Yes No
    RETURN the vehicle to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components as necessary.
    ADVISE the customer of the conditions that cause incomplete regeneration events.
    CHANGE the engine oil and oil filter.
    ADVISE the customer of the conditions that cause incomplete regeneration events.
