Pinpoint Test By : P0C2F:71, P088E, P0E4E

  1. NOTE: The Inverter System Controller (ISC) is referred to as the SOBDMC (Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module C) in the scan tool.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Electric Powertrain Control - System Operation and Component Description .

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    SOBDMC P0C2F:71 Internal Control Module Drive Motor/Generator-Engine Speed Sensor Performance: Actuator Stuck This DTC sets when an internal error occurs or a speed sensor DTC is present.
    SOBDMC P088E:00 Planetary Gear Set Failure: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets when an issue is detected with the main planetary gearset.
    SOBDMC P0E4E:00 Engine Failed to Crank: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the engine is locked.

    Possible Sources 

    • Engine concern
    • Transmission concern

  2. BY1 CHECK THE INVERTER SYSTEM CONTROLLER (ISC) CALIBRATION LEVEL

    • Verify the Inverter System Controller (ISC) is at the latest calibration level.

    Is the Inverter System Controller (ISC) at the latest calibration level? 

    Yes  GO to  BY2
    No  UPDATE the Inverter System Controller (ISC) to the latest calibration level.
  3. BY2 ATTEMPT TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER

    NOTE: Turn the engine clockwise only, using the crankshaft bolt.

    • Accessory ON.

    • Place the vehicle in Neutral Tow mode with the following steps:

      • Press the menu button on the controls on the steering wheel.
      • Select Settings.
      • Select Neutral Tow.
      • Follow the instructions on the information display.
      • Fully press the brake pedal.

    • Select NEUTRAL.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Using a suitable tool, manually turn the engine.

    Does the engine turn freely? 

    Yes  GO to  BY3
    No  REFER to: Engine .
  4. BY3 CHECK IF THE WHEELS ARE ROTATING

    • Using a suitable tool, manually turn the engine.

    Are any of the wheels rotating as you turn the engine over? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new transmission. REFER to: Transmission . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    No  GO to  BY4
  5. BY4 MOVE THE VEHICLE

    • Lower the vehicle.

    • While still in Neutral Tow mode with the key off, push the vehicle backward and forward two feet in each direction.

    Does the engine spin when the wheels are turned or is excessive mechanical noise heard from the transmission area? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new transmission. REFER to: Transmission . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    No  GO to  BY5
  6. BY5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CONDITION

    Is any excessive debris or contamination is present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new transmission. REFER to: Transmission . CLEAR the Inverter System Controller (ISC) DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    No  GO to  BY6
  7. BY6 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL CONDITION

    • Check engine oil for excessive gasoline contamination.

    Is there excessive gasoline contamination in the engine oil? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the fuel injector leakage/ stuck-on concern. REFER to: Engine .
    No  GO to  BY7
  8. BY7 TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE

    • Test drive the vehicle listening for any excessive noise.

    Is any excessive noise present during the test drive? 

    Yes  DIAGNOSE the mechanical noise issue. REFER to: Engine .
    No  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - PINPOINT TESTS (HYBRID) .
