Power Transfer Unit

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

• 1.
  
  Remove the front RH halfshaft. REFER to: Front Halfshaft RH - AWD .

• 2.
  
  Remove the RH catalytic converter. REFER to: Catalytic Converter .

• 3.
  
  Remove and discard the driveshaft to PTU bolt and washer assemblies.

  NOTE: Do not remove driveshaft from the PTU flange by pulling on the driveshaft tube. Damage to the CV-joint can result.

  • 1.
    
    Mark the driveshaft and PTU flange alignment.

  • 2.
    
    Using a punch and a copper hammer, separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange.

  • 3.
    
    Remove the driveshaft from the PTU flange.

• 5.
  
  Disconnect the PTU temperature sensor and the temperature sensor harness retainers.

  Remove the RH roll restrictor. REFER to: Roll Restrictor RH - 6F35.

• 7.
  
  Remove the roll restrictor bracket bolts and the roll restrictor bracket.

  Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.

  Disconnect the PTU vent hose.

  Remove the RH turbocharger oil return line. REFER to: Turbocharger Oil Return Tube .

• 11.
  
  Remove and discard the steering gear bolts. Position the steering gear aside.

  Remove and discard the subframe bracket bolts.

  Using a safety stand, remove and discard the subframe rearward bolts and remove the front subframe brackets. Lower the rear of the front subframe.

  Remove the PTU support bracket bolts and the PTU support bracket.

  Remove the PTU bolts and the PTU.

  Remove and discard the compression seal.
