Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU): Removal
NOTE:
Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- 1.NOTE: This step is only necessary if a new ABS module or a new HCU/ ABS module assembly is being installed.NOTE: The PMI process must begin with the current ABS module installed. If the current ABS module does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool, the tool may prompt for As-Built Data as part of the repair.
Using a diagnostic scan tool, begin the PMI process for the ABS module following the onscreen instructions.

Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 2.3L . Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 3.5L EcoBoost . Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe - 3.5L Duratec .

Remove the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .

Disconnect the front and rear brake tube fittings.Torque: 17 lb.ft (22.5 Nm)
- 2.
Disconnect the master cylinder brake tube fittings.Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)

- 8.NOTE: This step is not necessary if a new HCU/ ABS module assembly is being installed.
Remove the screws and the ABS module.
Torque: 49 lb.in (5.5 Nm)
