Powertrain Control Module (PCM): Removal

  NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

  Download the module information to the diagnostic tool using the programmable modules installation routine. Use the General Equipment: Ford Diagnostic Equipment

  Disconnect the battery connections. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

• 3.
  
  Remove the fender splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .

Vehicles without PCM security shield 

• 4.
  
  Remove the retainers and the PCM housing cover.

Vehicles with PCM security shield 

• 5.
  
  Remove the retainers and the PCM housing cover. Use the General Equipment: Center Punch Use the General Equipment: 3.5 mm Drill Bit

• 6.
  
  
  • Disconnect the retainers and the PCM electrical connectors.
  • Remove the retainers and the PCM.
