Symptom Chart: Vehicle Dynamic Systems

Diagnostics in this manual assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to DIAGNOSTIC METHODS for information about these practices.

Condition Possible Sources Actions
  • A module does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool
  • Fuse
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • ABS  module concern
  • The red brake warning indicator is always or never on
  • Low brake fluid level
  • Brake fluid level sensor
  • Parking brake applied
  • Parking brake switch
  • Brake booster vacuum sensor
  • IPC  concern
  • ABS  concern
  • The yellow ABS  warning indicator is always or never on
  • IPC  concern
  • ABS  concern
  • The stability traction control indicator (sliding-car icon) is always or never on
  • IPC  concern
  • ABS  concern
  • ABS  false activation, ABS  too sensitive, ABS  activates on normal stop
  • Front/rear suspension concern
  • ELIMINATE the front/rear suspension as the cause of the problem. REFER to SUSPENSION SYSTEM , Symptom Chart: Suspension System.
  • Steering wheel angle sensor (vehicles with active park assist)
  • SCCM  (vehicles with active park assist)
  • PSCM  (vehicles with and without active park assist)
  • RCM  mounting
  • Loose wheel speed sensor or excessive air gap
  • INSPECT wheel speed sensor for looseness or excessive air gap. TIGHTEN or INSTALL new as necessary. REFER to WHEEL SPEED SENSOR - FRONT  and Wheel Speed Sensor - Rear  .
  • Parking brake shoes out of adjustment (dragging)
  • CHECK and if necessary, ADJUST the parking brake shoes.
  • The traction control system cannot be disabled
  • IPC  message center
  • A MyKey® restricted key is in use with the AdvanceTrac® always on feature configured to ON
