Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK FOR PCM DTCs 
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to POWERTRAIN DTC CHARTS & DESCRIPTIONS (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID)
    2. No: GO to .
  2. CHECK FOR SCCM DTCs 
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the SCCM self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    1. Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
    2. No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH (BOO1) AND CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH (BOO2) PIDs 
    1. Using a scan tool, view the Powertrain - Cruise Control PIDs  .
    2. Monitor the powertrain PIDs  BOO1 (stoplamp switch) and BOO2 (cruise control deactivator switch) while applying and releasing the brake pedal.

    Do the PID values agree with the brake pedal position? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: REFER to Diagnostic Routine B: P0504, P0572, P0573, or P1703 .
  4. CHECK THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Using a scan tool, view PCM - Cruise Control PIDs  .
    2. Press each cruise control switch while monitoring the cruise control switch PID SCCS.

    Does the PID value agree with the switch position? 

    1. Yes: GO to .
    2. No: If only one switch does not display the correct PID value, INSTALL a new LH steering wheel switch. REFER to STEERING WHEEL SWITCH .

      Otherwise, REFER to Diagnostic Routine C: The Cruise Control Switch Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly .

  5. CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect all the PCM connectors.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM.

      REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 2.0L GTDI or POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT .

    2. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
