Removal and Installation

All vehicles 

1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

   5.4L and 6.8L 

2. Loosen the Air Cleaner (ACL) clamp and remove the ACL element, ACL tray and ACL inlet.

   4.6L 

3. Remove the ACL outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .

   All vehicles 

4. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise (vehicles with A/C) or counterclockwise (vehicles without A/C) and position the accessory drive belt aside.
5. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
6. Position the generator B+ protective cover aside, remove the B+ terminal nut and position the B+ terminal aside.
   • To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
7. Remove the 4 bolts and the generator bracket.
   • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
8. Remove the 2 bolts and the generator.
   • To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
