Pinpoint Test
NOTE:
If the scan tool is unable to communicate with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or access the transmission Parameter Identifications (PIDs), REFER to
INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS
.
- Read and record all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Install the scan tool and record all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Were Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0748, P0960, P0962 and/or P0963 set?
- Yes:
For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0748 and P0960, GO to 2
on page 2.
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0748 and P0962, GO to 4 on page 3.
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0748 and P0963, GO to 6 on page 5.
- No: REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50 AND 6F55 .
- Install the scan tool and record all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Check the Line Pressure Control (LPC) circuit for an open
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the transaxle vehicle harness C168.
- Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175T.
- Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Measure the resistance of circuit CET09 (YE/VT) from the transaxle vehicle harness C168-18 to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) C175T-34.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 3 on page 3.
- No: REPAIR circuit CET09 (YE/VT) for an open. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). TEST the system for normal operation.
- Check the Line Pressure Control (LPC) for an open
- Measure the resistance between the transaxle internal harness, terminal 18 and terminal 15 component side.Fig 2: Measuring Resistance Between Transaxle Internal Harness, Terminal 18 And Terminal 15 Connector Terminals

- Is the resistance between 4.0 and 7.2 ohms?
- Yes: REPLACE the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PROGRAM the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Data Download procedure. REFER to Solenoid Body Strategy Download. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No: REMOVE the main control cover. REFER to MAIN CONTROL COVER . INSPECT the solenoid body for metal shavings on the exposed metal contacts or other components. CLEAN the solenoid body and RECHECK the resistance value. If the resistance value is out of specification and a short to ground is not found, INSTALL a new solenoid body assembly. REFER to SOLENOID BODY ASSEMBLY . PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Data Download procedure. REFER to Solenoid Body Strategy Download. TEST the system for normal operation.
