Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Systems: Overview

The EGR system controls the nitrogen oxides (NOx ) emissions. Small amounts of exhaust gases are recirculated back into the combustion chamber to mix with the air/fuel charge. The combustion chamber temperature is reduced, lowering NOx emissions.
