Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE SUSPECT REAR POWER WINDOW OPERATION FROM Left Hand (LH) FRONT CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Attempt to operate the suspect rear window from the Left Hand (LH) front window control switch.
      • Does the rear window operate when using the Left Hand (LH) front window control switch? 
      • Yes:  GO to step 2 .
      • No:  GO to step  3 .
  2. CHECK THE FRONT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH LOCK-OUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Suspect Rear Window Control Switch C701 (Left Hand (LH)) or C801 (Right Hand (RH)).
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. NOTE: Make sure the Left Hand (LH) window control switch lockout switch is in the UNLOCK position.

    5. Measure:
      • Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 
      • Yes:  INSTALL a new rear window control switch. REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
      • No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  3. CHECK THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Suspect Rear Window Control Switch C701 (Left Hand (LH)) or C801 (Right Hand (RH)).
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:

      • Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 
      • Yes:  GO to step 4 .
      • No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  4. CHECK THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
      • Yes:  GO to step 5 .
      • No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. CHECK THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE SIGNAL FROM THE Left Hand (LH) FRONT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. For Left Hand (LH) rear window, while pressing and releasing the Left Hand (LH) front window control switch, measure:

    3. For Right Hand (RH) rear window, while pressing and releasing the Left Hand (LH) front window control switch, measure:

      • Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the Left Hand (LH) front window control switch is pressed; and 0 volt when released? 
      • Yes:  GO to step  8 .
      • No:  If voltage was less than 11 volts when the switch was pressed, GO to step 6 .

        If voltage was greater than 0 volt when the switch was released, GO to step  7 .

  6. CHECK FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH AND THE Left Hand (LH) FRONT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Front Window Control Switch.
    3. For Left Hand (LH) rear window, measure:

    4. For Right Hand (RH) rear window, measure:

      • Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 
      • Yes:  INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) front window control switch. REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
      • No:  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  7. CHECK THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE SIGNAL FROM THE Left Hand (LH) FRONT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Left Hand (LH) Front Window Control Switch.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. For Left Hand (LH) rear window, measure:

    5. For Right Hand (RH) rear window, measure:

      • Is any voltage present? 
      • Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit.
      • No:  INSTALL a new Left Hand (LH) front window control switch. REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
  8. CHECK THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH OPERATION
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. To check upward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

    3. To check downward window operation, connect fused jumper wires:

      • Does the rear window move up and/or down? 
      • Yes:  INSTALL a new rear window control switch. REFER to WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH .
      • No:  GO to step 9 .
  9. CHECK FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE SUSPECT WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH AND WINDOW MOTOR
    1. Disconnect: Suspect Rear Window Motor C703 (Left Hand (LH)) or C803 (Right Hand (RH)).
    2. Measure

      • Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
