Pinpoint Test

NOTE: When taking measurements at Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.
  1. CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Disconnect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265A.
    4. Measure:

      • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  GO to on page 3.
      2. No:  If the resistances of C3265A-A and/or C3265A-B to ground were not greater than 10,000 ohms to ground, GO to on page 6.

        If resistances of C3265A-C and/or C3265A-D to ground were not greater than 10,000 ohms to ground, GO to on page 7.

  2. CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Measure:

      • Is any voltage present? 
      1. Yes:  If voltage is present at C3265A-A and/or C3265A-B, GO to on page 8.

        If voltage is present at C3265A-C and/or C3265A-D, GO to on page 9.

      2. No:  GO to on page 4.
  3. CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) RESISTANCE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. NOTE: Make sure the Thermo-Electric Devices (TEDs) are at room temperature and there is no air blowing across the Thermo-Electric Devices (TEDs). Do not handle a Thermo-Electric Device (TED) when measuring resistance. These conditions can cause incorrect readings and lead to incorrect identification of components that are not damaged.

    3. Measure:
      • Are the resistances between 0.9 and 10 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 10  on page 10.
      2. No:  If the resistance between Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265A-A and C3265A-B was not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, GO to on page 5.

        If the resistance between Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265A-C and C3265A-D was not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, GO to on page 4.

  4. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE BACKREST Thermo-Electric Device (TED)
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039.
    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance between 0.9 and 10 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR circuit CHS01 (GY/VT) or RHS01 (WH/VT) for an open circuit or high resistance. GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT BACKREST THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
  5. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED)
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance between 0.9 and 10 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR circuit CHS01 (GY/VT) or RHS01 (WH/VT) for an open circuit or high resistance. GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
  6. CHECK THE CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
    2. Measure:

      • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 11  on page 11.
  7. CHECK THE BACKREST Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Disconnect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039.
    2. Measure:

      • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  INSTALL a new seat backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT BACKREST THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 11  on page 11.
  8. CHECK THE CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:

      • Is any voltage present? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
  9. CHECK THE BACKREST Thermo-Electric Device (TED) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:

      • Is any voltage present? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT BACKREST THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 11  on page 11.
  10. CHECK FOR CORRECT Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040 (if previously disconnected).
    6. Connect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039 (if previously disconnected).
    7. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) . GO to 11  on page 11.
      2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to 11  on page 11.
  11. CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
    3. Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265A (if previously disconnected).
    4. Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040 (if previously disconnected).
    5. Connect: Passenger Backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3039 (if previously disconnected).
    6. Ignition ON.
    7. Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    8. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    9. Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
      • Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
      2. No:  The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
