Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK OPERATION OF BOTH CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEATS AND VERIFY THE SYMPTOM
    1. Check the operation of both climate controlled seats and verify the symptom.
      • Is only a single climate controlled seat inoperative?
      1. Yes:  GO to 2  on page 2.
      2. No:  If both seats are inoperative, REFER to SYMPTOM CHART(S) .
  2. CHECK FOR Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Using a scan tool, perform Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) self-test.
      • Were any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during the self-test?
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) .
      2. No:  GO to 3  on page 2.
  3. CHECK OPERATION OF THE Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) USING Parameter Identifications (PIDs)
NOTE: The purpose of this step is to verify the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) is able to receive and process inbound command messages from the network and demonstrate if the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) is operational. This indicates the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) may not be sending the commands correctly.
    1. Using a scan tool, view Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) driver seat Parameter Identifications (PIDs):
      • Seat cushion thermal electric device temperature (CSHTEMP)
      • Seat back thermal electric device temperature (BK_TEMP)
      • Climate-controlled seat heat command (TED_HEAT_D)
    2. Using a scan tool, view Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) front passenger seat Parameter Identifications (PIDs):
      • Passenger cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature (PCSHTMP)
      • Passenger back Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature (PBKTMP)
      • Passenger Thermo-Electric Device (TED) heat mode (TED_HEAT_P)
    3. NOTE: The Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) active commands TED_HEAT_D (driver seat) and TED_HEAT_P (passenger seat) are limited to 15 seconds in the ON state.
    4. Operate the affected climate controlled seat using the active command while monitoring the appropriate Parameter Identifications (PIDs) for that seat.
      • When the command is in process the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) temperature Parameter Identifications (PIDs) on the affected seat should momentarily increase. If no temperature increase is noted, remove the cushion blower filter and repeat the active command while physically monitoring the cushion blower for fan movement.
      • Do the Parameter Identification (PID) states or cushion blower movement indicate climate controlled seat operation when using the active command?
      1. Yes:  GO to 4  on page 3.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) .
  4. USE THE TOUCHSCREEN BUTTONS AND MONITOR THE Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs) FOR A RESPONSE
    1. Using a scan tool, view Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
      • Driver state seat mode (DCCSMOD)
      • Passenger state seat mode (PCCSMOD)
    2. Start the engine.
    3. NOTE: Operation of the climate controlled seats repeatedly on and off or repeatedly switching between heat and cool modes can cause Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to set, disabling one or both seat system and can require Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to be cleared before seat operation can continue. It is recommended to allow time between modes for seat temperatures to return toward ambient temperatures before continuing.
    4. Attempt to operate the affected climate controlled seat in all modes using the appropriate buttons on the touchscreen interface while monitoring the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) Parameter Identification (PID) DCCSMOD (driver seat) or PCCSMOD (passenger seat).
      • Do all the Parameter Identifications (PIDs) states match the climate controlled seat settings selected on the touchscreen interface?
      1. Yes:  If the fault is intermittent, CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. INSPECT the connectors, terminals and wiring. ATTEMPT to recreate the fault by flexing the wire harness and operating the system. CHECK the electrical connectors for corrosion, poor pin contact or pushed-out pins. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found and TIGHTEN any loose Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connector pins.
      2. No:  REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: GENERAL AUDIO SYSTEM to diagnose the inoperative touchscreen button(s).
