Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK FOR Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) MODULE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module self-test.
      • Were any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during the self-test? 
      1. Yes:  For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1034:11 or B1034:13, GO to on page 3.

        For Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) B1038:11 or B1038:13, GO to on page 5.

        For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1038:12, GO to on page 8.

        For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: HEATING, VENTILATION, AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE - DATC .

      2. No:  GO to on page 3.
  2. CHECK THE TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLS OPERATION
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Select each audio and climate control function using the touchscreen controls.
      • Do all touchscreen controls operate? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 12  on page 14.
      2. No:  If equipped with Premium Plus, REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE AI .

        If equipped with Sony® Sound, REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE L .

  3. CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module C228B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364.
    5. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and ground; and less than 3 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module? 
      1. Yes:  GO to on page 8.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
  4. CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module C228B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364.
    5. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and ground; and less than 3 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module? 
      1. Yes:  GO to on page 6.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
  5. CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Disconnect: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module C228A.
    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and ground; and less than 3 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 11  on page 13.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
  6. CHECK THE HEATED SEAT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module C228A and C228B.
    4. Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364.
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Measure:

      • Is any voltage present on any circuits? 
      1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
      2. No:  GO to 12  on page 14.
  7. CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Driver Seat Backrest Heater Mat C365.
    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  GO to on page 9.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
  8. CHECK CUSHION HEATED SEAT MAT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and ground; and between 1.2 and 2.2 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat pins? 
      1. Yes:  GO to on page 10.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat cushion heater mat. REFER to SEAT CUSHION HEATER MAT . GO to 13  on page 15.
  9. CHECK THE BACKREST HEATED SEAT MAT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat backrest heater mat and ground; and between 1.2 and 2.2 ohms between the driver seat backrest heater mat pins? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 10  on page 12.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat backrest heater mat. REFER to SEAT BACKREST HEATER MAT . GO to 13  on page 15.
  10. CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND OR OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE BACKREST AND CUSHION HEATER MAT
    1. Measure:

    2. Measure:

      • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and ground; and less than 3 ohms between the driver seat cushion heater mat and backrest heater mat? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 12  on page 14.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 13  on page 15.
  11. CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:

      • Is the resistance between 725 ohms and 170,000 ohms between driver seat cushion heater mat pins; and greater than 10,000 ohms between driver seat cushion heater mat and ground? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 12  on page 14.
      2. No:  INSTALL a new seat cushion heater mat. REFER to SEAT CUSHION HEATER MAT . GO to 13  on page 15.
  12. CHECK FOR CORRECT Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) MODULE OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364 (if previously disconnected).
    6. Connect: Driver Seat Backrest Heater Mat C365 (if previously disconnected).
    7. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module. REFER to HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) MODULE Module. GO to 13  on page 15.
      2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  13. CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364 (if previously disconnected).
    4. Connect: Driver Seat Backrest Heater Mat C365 (if previously disconnected).
    5. Ignition ON.
    6. Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    7. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    8. Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
      • Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
      2. No:  The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
