Pinpoint Test
NOTE:
When taking measurements at Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.
- CHECK THE Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) FOR Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
- Using a scan tool, perform Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) self-test.
- Was Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B272A retrieved during the self-test?
- Yes: GO to 2 on page 2.
- No: GO to 4 on page 4.
- Using a scan tool, perform Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) self-test.
- CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) THERMISTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Disconnect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265B.
- Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
- Measure:

- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 3 on page 3.
- No: REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 16 on page 10.
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment. - CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) THERMISTOR

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHARTAmbient Temperature Resistance 0 C (32 F) to 10 C (50 F) 2,782 to 1,663 ohms 10 C (50 F) to 20 C (68 F) 1,837 to 1,140 ohms 20 C (68 F) to 30 C (86 F) 1,250 to 806 ohms 30 C (86 F) to 40 C (103.9 F) 893 to 570 ohms 40 C (103.9 F) to 50 C (121.9 F) 630 to 428 ohms - Is the resistance within the limits indicated?
- Yes: REPAIR the affected circuit. GO to 16 on page 10.
- No: INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 16 on page 10.
- Measure:
- CONFIRM THE FAULT
- Verify with the customer that the concern is the seat shuts off in heat mode.
- Attempt to recreate the fault. Start the vehicle and set the passenger seat to HIGH heat for at least 15 minutes.
- Is the customer concern with the seat shutting off in heat mode and was the fault recreated?
- Yes: GO to 5 on page 4.
- No: The fault is not present. The fault may have been set due to a past failure or incorrect use of the climate controlled seat system by repeated switching between heat and cool modes.
NOTE: A crushed seat cushion foam pad or climate controlled seat manifold may be the cause of the fault. It may be necessary to sit on the seat or place something of reasonable size and weight on the seat to recreate the fault. - CHECK OPERATION OF THE SEAT
- Ignition ON.
- With the engine running, set both front seats to HIGH cool.
- Compare the air flow from the passenger seat cushion to the air flow from the driver seat cushion.
- Is the air flow exhausting from the passenger seat cushion comparable to the air flow exhausting from the driver seat cushion?
- Yes: GO to 14 on page 9.
- No: GO to 6 on page 4.
- CHECK THE CUSHION BLOWER FOR AN OBSTRUCTION OR RESTRICTED FILTER
- Ignition OFF.
- Inspect the blower of the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) assembly for an obstruction or for a restricted filter.
- Is the blower obstructed or the filter restricted?
- Yes: REMOVE the obstruction or INSTALL a new filter.
- No: GO to 7 on page 4.
- CHECK THE CUSHION FAN OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- With the engine running, set both front seats to HIGH cool.
- Inspect the cushion blower for operation.
- Does the cushion blower operate?
- Yes: GO to 14 on page 9.
- No: GO to 8 on page 5.
- CHECK THE BLOWER SPEED CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Disconnect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C.
- Disconnect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 9 on page 5.
- No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to 16 on page 10.

- Ignition ON.
- Measure:

- Is any voltage present?
- Yes: REPAIR the circuit. GO to 16 on page 10.
- No: GO to 10 on page 6.
- CHECK BLOWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 11 on page 7.
- No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to 16 on page 10.
- CHECK BLOWER CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- CHECK THE BLOWER RESISTANCE
- Measure:
- Is the resistance between 4,000 ohms and 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 13 on page 8.
- No: INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 16 on page 10.
NOTE: Connect the ohmmeter with the positive lead to pin 2 and the negative lead to pin 4 when measuring. Ohmmeter leads incorrectly connected can result in false readings and lead to incorrect identification of components that are not damaged.Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Measure:
- CHECK THE BLOWER SPEED CONTROL RESISTANCE
- Measure:
- Is the resistance between 240,000 ohms and 420,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 14 on page 9.
- No: INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 16 on page 10.

- Measure:
- CHECK THE Thermo-Electric Device (TED) INSTALLATION AND FOR CRUSHED SEAT CUSHION
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove the seat. REFER to SEAT .
- Remove the seat cushion cover. REFER to SEAT CUSHION COVER .
- Inspect the seat cushion.
- Is the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) correctly installed?
- Is the seat cushion foam pad crushed or restricted?
- Is the climate controlled seat manifold crushed or restricted?
- Is the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) correctly installed and are there no signs of damage to the foam pad and manifold?
- Yes: GO to 15 on page 10.
- No: Correctly INSTALL the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) or INSTALL a new seat cushion foam pad and/or climate controlled seat manifold. INSTALL the passenger seat. GO to 16 on page 10.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) . GO to 16 on page 10.
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to 16 on page 10.
- CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265B and C3265C (if previously disconnected).
- Connect: Passenger Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3040 (if previously disconnected).
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
- Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
- No: The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
