Pinpoint Test
NOTE:
When taking measurements at Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.
- CHECK THE DRIVER CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED) BLOWER SPEED CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Disconnect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C.
- Disconnect: Driver Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035.
- Measure:
Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 2 on page 2.
- No: REPAIR the circuit. GO to 5 on page 4.
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment. - CHECK THE DRIVER CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED) BLOWER SPEED CONTROL CIRCUIT AND BLOWER GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- Measure:
Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 3 on page 3.
- No: REPAIR the circuits. GO to 5 on page 4.
- Measure:
- DETERMINE CUSHION Thermo-Electric Device (TED) OR Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) FAILURE
- Remove the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) from the driver seat. REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) .
- Remove the cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) from the passenger seat and install it on the driver seat.
- Connect: Driver Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035.
- Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C.
- Start the engine and check operation of the driver seat climate controlled seat system.
- Does the seat operate with the Thermo-Electric Device (TED) from the other seat installed?
- Yes: INSTALL a new seat cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED). REFER to SEAT CUSHION THERMO-ELECTRIC DEVICE (TED) . GO to 5 on page 4.
- No: GO to 4 on page 3.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM). REFER to DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (DCSM) . GO to 5 on page 4.
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to 5 on page 4.
- CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
- Connect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C339.
- Connect: Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) C3265C (if previously disconnected).
- Connect: Driver Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device (TED) C3035 (if previously disconnected).
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
- Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
- No: The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
