Pinpoint Test

NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Disconnect: Driver Seat Control Switch C360.
    4. Measure:

      • Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 2  on page 2.
      2. No:  VERIFY Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 23 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify possible causes of the circuit short. GO to 3  on page 3.
  2. CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT CONTROL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

      • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
      1. Yes:  INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to SEAT CONTROL SWITCH . GO to 3  on page 3.
      2. No:  REPAIR the circuit. GO to 3  on page 3.
  3. CHECK FOR Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
      WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051.
    3. Connect: Driver Seat Control Switch C360.
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Using a scan tool, clear the Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
    6. Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
    7. Using a scan tool, perform Restraints Control Module (RCM) self-test.
      • Are any Restraints Control Module (RCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) retrieved during self-test? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) for pinpoint test direction.
      2. No:  The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
