SERVICE ACTION

IN-STOCK VEHICLES:

Dealers are to inspect the fuel tank build date code on the bottom of the fuel tank. See Attachment III for inspection instructions.

If the fuel tank date code indicates that the fuel tank was built in the month of August, it must be replaced. Call the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) Information Center at 1-800-367-3788. Ford SVT will arrange to send a Ford GT specialist to your dealership to assist the dealer technician with the replacement of the fuel tank assembly. Dealers should begin performing this inspection and repair on in-stock vehicles immediately (do not wait until parts are available for Safety Recall 04S26 ).

If the fuel tank date code indicates that the fuel tank was built before or after the month of August, replacement of the fuel tank is not required.

Lift the vehicle using one the following procedures.

Drive-On Hoist
CAUTION: To prevent possible damage to the underbody, do not drive the vehicle onto the drive-on hoist without first checking for possible interference.
