SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The safety belt warning chime is inoperative
  • Driver safety belt switch.
  • Passenger safety belt switch.
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Restraint control module (RCM).
  • CHECK the safety belt warning indicator operation.
    • If the safety belt warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
    • If the safety belt warning indicator does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the safety belt warning indicator.
  • The belt minder feature does not operate correctly
  • Belt minder deactivated.
  • Driver safety belt switch.
  • Passenger safety belt switch.
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Restraint control module (RCM).
  • VERIFY the belt minder is activated.
    • CHECK the safety belt warning indicator operation.
    • If the safety belt warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
    • If the safety belt warning indicator does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the safety belt warning indicator.
  • The key-in-ignition chime is inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition lock cylinder).
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Driver door ajar switch.
  • Smart junction box (SJB).
  • All the chimes are inoperative
  • Instrument cluster.
  • CONNECT the diagnostic tool. SELECT the instrument cluster warning lamps and chime active command. OBSERVE the chimes.
    • If the chimes do not sound, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the chimes sound, the system is operating correctly at this time.
  • The headlamp on reminder chime is inoperative
  • Headlamp switch.
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition lock cylinder).
  • Driver door ajar switch.
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Smart junction box (SJB).
  • The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in the ignition and the headlamps are off)
  • Circuitry.
  • Headlamp switch.
  • Key-in-ignition switch.
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Smart junction box (SJB).
  • The air bag chime does not operate correctly
  • Circuitry.
  • Restraint control module (RCM).
  • Instrument cluster.
  • The message center warning chime is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster.
  • CONNECT the diagnostic tool. SELECT the instrument cluster warning lamps and chime active command. OBSERVE the chimes.
    • If the chimes do not sound, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the chimes sound, the system is operating correctly at this time.
  • The message center switch tone chime is inoperative
  • Instrument cluster.
  • The turn signal warning chime is inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Instrument cluster.
