Disabling System

  1. Turn all vehicle accessories off. Turn the ignition switch to off. At the Central Junction Box (CJB), located below the left side of the instrument panel, remove the cover and the Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse F2.60 (7.5A) from the CJB.
  2. Turn the ignition on and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding. Turn the ignition off.
  3. Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
  4. Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulator to clockspring connectors at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  5. Remove passenger side air bag module. See PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulators to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
  6. WARNING: If vehicle is equipped with side air bags, manufacturer recommends removing front seats (with side air bag modules) before performing electrical diagnosis on air bag system. Seats may be left in vehicle if diagnostics are NOT being performed on side air bag system and air bag simulator is installed in place of side air bag harness.
  7. Working beneath driver's seat, disconnect driver seat side air bag module connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat procedure for passenger seat side air bag module.
  8. Install the restraints control module fuse F2.60 (7.5A) to the CJB. Connect the battery ground cable.
