Pinpoint Test C: The Engine Does Not Reach Normal Operating Temperature

  1. C1 CHECK THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE 
    • Key in START position.
    • Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for 10 minutes.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Feel the upper and lower radiator hoses.
    • Are the upper and lower radiator hoses cold? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new thermostat. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES for diagnosis and testing of the engine coolant temperature gauge
