Test B: Set Speed Fluctuates
- Ensure problem does not occur while driving vehicle without speed control system activated. If problem occurs only with speed control system activated, go to next step. If problem occurs without speed control system activated, repair engine performance problem as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Ensure that speed control servo/actuator cable is disconnected at both ends while performing following test. Speed control servo/actuator is located behind left front fenderwell. See Figure. Check for binding or sticking speed control servo/actuator cable, throttle linkage and/or throttle plate. Ensure throttle cable bracket and speed control servo/actuator bracket are not loose. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Install known-good speed control servo/actuator. See SERVO/ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test drive vehicle and check for proper speed control operation. If speed control does not operate properly, go to next step. If speed control operates properly, replace speed control servo/actuator. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Replace Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. PCM is located behind passenger's side kick panel. See Figure. After repair, test system for normal operation.
