Pinpoint Test X: DTC C1998 - Module Calibration Not Complete

NOTE: The stability assist lamp will flash when a system calibration is required. Calibration is required after certain DTCs are cleared.
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not on a hoist and is sitting on level ground before performing ABS MODULE CALIBRATION (ABS WITH STABILITY ASSIST) .
  1. X1 CHECK FOR DTCs

    1. Connect diagnostic tool.
    2. Turn ignition on.
    3. Using the recorded results from the SJB self-test:
    • Is any other DTC retrieved with C1998?
    1. Yes  : GO to the appropriate pinpoint test for the DTC.

Some of the pinpoint tests recommend ABS module calibration prior to any further diagnostics; in this case, GO to X2.

    2. No  : GO to X2.
  2. X2 ABS MODULE CALIBRATION
Fig 2: Identifying ABS Module Calibration

    1. Connector diagnostic tool.
    2. Start the engine.
NOTE: Be sure to rotate the steering wheel lock-to-lock during the calibration of the ABS system.
    3. Carry out the ABS module calibration per the diagnostic tool instructions.
    • Did the calibration complete for all of the stability assist sensors; and did the stability assist lamp stop flashing and go off?
    1. Yes  : GO to X3.
    2. No  : GO to  X4.

Some concerns will cause the calibration not to complete. If sent here from another pinpoint test, return to that pinpoint test for further diagnostics.

  3. X3 CLEAR DTC C1998
NOTE: Clear DTC C1998 after completing the calibration.

    1. Connector diagnostic tool.
    2. Turn ignition on.
    3. Clear the DTC.
    • Did the DTC clear?
    1. Yes  : TEST DRIVE the vehicle. REPEAT the self-test.

If sent here from another pinpoint test, return to that pinpoint test for further diagnostics.

    2. No  : GO to X4.
  4. X4 MONITOR THE STEERING POSITION SENSOR PIDS
Fig 4: Identifying Monitor ABS Module Steering Position Sensor PIDs

    1. Turn ignition on.
    2. Monitor the ABS module steering position sensor PIDS while rotating the steering wheel clockwise and counterclockwise.
    • Are the two steering position sensor PID values switching as the wheel rotates?
    1. Yes  : Go To PINPOINT TEST O: DTC C1279, C1280, C1281, C1282, C2769, C2770, C2777, C2778-SENSOR CLUSTER FAULT .
    2. No  : Go To PINPOINT TEST N: DTC C1277 AND C1278 - STEERING WHEEL ANGLE 1 AND 2 CIRCUIT FAILURE/FAULTED .
