Test Q: Temperature Controls Do Not Operate Using Front/Rear Auxiliary Controls

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using NGS tester, perform Rear Electronic Module (REM) self-diagnostic test. If DTC B1249 id recorded, go to step  3 If any other DTCs are recorded, see REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are recorded, go to next step.
  2. NOTE: When performing active command mode on rear air mode door, rear temperature blend door will also move.
  3. Using NGS tester, enter REM ACTIVE COMMAND MODE. Turn front climate control switch to off position. Turn rear blower motor switch to high speed. Select BLND DOOR to command auxiliary temperature control door open and closed. Check temperature from panel and floor vents. If temperature varies from cold to warm, go to step  12. If temperature does not vary from cold to warm, go to next step.
  4. Remove A/C auxiliary blend door actuator from rear climate control housing. Enter REM ACTIVE COMMAND MODE. Select BLND DOOR to command temperature blend door open and closed. Check airflow from panel and floor vents. If auxiliary temperature blend door operates as commanded, repair binding or sticking blend door. If blend door does not operate as commanded, go to next step.
  5. CAUTION: Jumper wires must be connected exactly as described in test step or damage to actuator may occur.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect REM harness connector C342 (located in right rear quarter panel). Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between terminals No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) and No. 13 (Tan/Red wire) at REM harness connector C342. Connect a second 5-amp fused jumper wire between terminals No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) and No. 11 (Black wire) at REM harness connector C342. See Figure. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator rotates clockwise, go to next step. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator does not rotate clockwise, go to step  6.
  7. WARNING: Jumper wires must be connected exactly as described in test step or damage to actuator may occur.
  8. Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between terminals No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) and No. 11 (Black wire) at REM harness connector C342. Connect a second 5-amp fused jumper wire between terminals No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) and No. 13 (Tan/Red wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. See Figure. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator rotates counterclockwise, go to step  12. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator does not rotate counterclockwise, remove jumper wires and go to next step.
  9. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step  9. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C342. If all resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to step  10.
  11. Disconnect A/C auxiliary blend door actuator harness connector C311. Measure resistance of Pink/Yellow wire between terminal No. 7 at A/C auxiliary blend door actuator harness connector C311 and terminal No. 2 at REM harness connector C342. Measure resistance of Black/Light Blue wire between terminal No. 8 at A/C auxiliary blend door actuator harness connector C311 and terminal No. 3 at REM harness connector C342. See Figure and Figure . If all resistances are 5 ohms or less, go to step  11. If any resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Yellow wire or Black/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  12. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. If any voltage is greater than 10 volts, repair short to voltage in Pink/Yellow wire or Black/Light Blue wire. If all voltages are 10 volts or less, replace A/C auxiliary blend door actuator. Retest system.
  13. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink/Yellow wire) at REM harness connector C342. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (Black/Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C342 harness connector. If all resistances are greater than 10 k/ohms, replace A/C auxiliary blend door actuator. If any resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Pink/Yellow wire or Black/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  14. Connect A/C auxiliary blend door actuator harness connector C311. Actuate A/C auxiliary blend door actuator to cold position as described in step  4. Actuate A/C auxiliary blend door actuator to warm position as described in step  5. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator operates in both directions, replace REM. Retest system. If A/C auxiliary blend door actuator does not operate in either direction, replace A/C auxiliary blend door actuator. Retest system.
  15. Disconnect REM harness connector C342. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 18 (Tan/Light Green wire) at REM harness connector C342. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step  16. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  16. Disconnect REM harness connector C341. Measure resistance between terminal No. 20 (Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C341 harness connector and terminal No. 9 (Gray/White wire) at REM harness connector C343. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is between 4500 and 6500 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not between 4500 and 6500 ohms, go to step  15.
  17. Measure resistance between terminal No. 9 (Gray/White wire) at REM harness connector harness connector C343 harness connector and terminal No. 20 (Light Blue wire) at REM harness connector C341. Actuate A/C auxiliary mode door actuator from cold to warm, as described in steps  4 and  5. If resistance varies between 250 and 6250 ohms, replace REM. Retest system. If resistance does not vary between 250 and 6250 ohms, go to next step.
