Test D: Broken Cable Detected

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Windstar and 1999 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn overhead console on/off switch to OFF position. Inspect cable attachment on power sliding door center roller hinge. Check for missing clip. Check that clip eyelet is seated over hinge pin and tab is seated behind pin. If cable attachments are okay, go to next step. If cable attachments are not okay, repair cable attachment. If retaining clip is missing, install a new retaining clip. If cable is damaged or broken, replace power sliding door actuator drive assembly.
  2. Manually open and close power sliding door while observing cable movement. If cable retracts into assembly actuator and tension remains consistent, go to next step. If cable does not retract into assembly actuator and tension does not remain consistent, replace power sliding door actuator drive assembly.
  3. Remove Fuse Junction Box (FJB) fuse No. 6 (15-amp). Wait 30 seconds and install fuse No. 6. Close power sliding door and press overhead console on/off switch to ON position. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) or Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) self-test. If power sliding door cycled open and closed during self-test and DTC B2338 was retrieved, replace appropriate power sliding door module. If DTC B2338 was not retrieved, system is operating correctly. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING . If power sliding door did not cycle correctly and DTCs B2363, B2364, B2483, B2591 or B2605 are retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See LEFT POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX  and/or REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM) DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If power sliding door did not cycle correctly and DTCs B2363, B2364, B2483, B2591 or B2605 are not retrieved, replace appropriate power sliding door actuator drive assembly.
