Wiggle Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Windstar and 1999 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. The wiggle test is designed to help identify and locate intermittent failures in vehicle wiring harness and system components. Once wiggle test is entered, several inputs and outputs of the module are monitored for a change of state while harness and connectors are gently twisted, flexed or wiggled.
  2. When a state change is encountered, a tone will sound and/or a DTC will be displayed on scan tool. By performing wiggle test and pulling on different areas of wiring harness, intermittent open and short circuits can be located and serviced.
  3. To perform wiggle test, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See RETRIEVING DTCS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, enter DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK menu and press trigger.
  4. Highlight desired module and press trigger. Highlight DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES and press trigger. Highlight WIGGLE TEST and press trigger, then press START (button 3). Perform wiggle test while observing scan tool display, or listening for an audible tone signal to sound.
