Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING.

System uses a cycling clutch, fixed orifice tube refrigerant system and is designed to cycle compressor on and off to maintain desired cooling level and prevent evaporator freeze-up. Primary components are compressor, condenser, fixed orifice tube, evaporator core, suction accumulator-drier, and control panel.

Electrical system consists of blower motor resistor, A/C pressure cut-off switch, A/C cycling clutch switch, A/C clutch, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and fuses to maintain and control system operation.

System airflow is controlled by a 6-port vacuum selector valve, an integral part of control panel. System air temperature is regulated by an electronic blend door actuator. Vacuum control motors are used on both air distribution and air inlet doors. Blower motor pulls air through fresh/recirculated air inlet, through a pollen filter, then distributed to various outlets depending on position of mode and temperature settings.
