Test B: All Windows Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After repair, clear DTCs and retest system.
- Using NGS tester, perform GEM self-test. If there are no DTCs, go to next step. If DTC B1302 or B1304 is present, go to step . If DTC B1342 is present, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect driver power window control switch C504b. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between harness connector C504b terminal No. 2 and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to step 11. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove accessory delay relay. Measure resistance between driver power window control switch harness connector C504b terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire) and accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 87. See Fig 1If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove accessory delay relay. Measure voltage between accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 30 and ground. See Fig 1. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check accessory delay relay. See ACCESSORY DELAY & ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is defective, replace defective relay.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove accessory delay relay. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 86. See Fig 1. If battery voltage exists, go to step 8. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove battery saver relay. Measure resistance between resistance between accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 86 and battery saver relay socket terminal No. 5. See Fig 2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to INTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL to diagnose battery saver relay circuit. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace central junction box and test system operation. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - BLACKWOOD .
- Remove GEM from central junction box 18-pin internal connector C267. Measure internal resistance between central junction box internal connector C267 terminal No. 11 (central junction box side) and accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 85. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace central junction box. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - BLACKWOOD . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Measure resistance between accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 85 and ground. See Fig 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace central junction box. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - BLACKWOOD .
- Disconnect GEM from central junction box 18-pin internal connector C267. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and accessory delay relay socket terminal No. 85. See Fig 1. If battery voltage exists, replace central junction box. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - BLACKWOOD . If battery voltage does not exist, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's side window switch 5-pin harness connector C504b. Measure resistance between ground and driver's side window switch harness connector C504b terminal No. 1 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace driver's side window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate Black wire between driver's side window switch and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect all GEM harness connectors and remove GEM from central junction box. Check for backed out, corroded or loose terminals. Repair as necessary. Connect all GEM harness connectors and connect to central junction box. Operate all windows from all switches. If problem still exists, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, system is okay.
