Test I: Speed Control Indicator Always On
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, retest system for proper operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect speed control servo/actuator harness connector C122. Speed control servo/actuator is located in left side of engine compartment. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe speed control indicator light. If speed control indicator light is always on, go to next step. If speed control indicator light is not always on, replace speed control servo/actuator. See SPEED CONTROL SERVO/ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C238. Measure resistance between ground and speed control servo/actuator harness connector C122 terminal No. 1 (Orange/Light Blue wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair instrument cluster as necessary. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - F150 Pickup article. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Orange/Light Blue wire between speed control servo/actuator and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
