Test G: Memory Seat Does Not Operate From Memory Switch (Navigator Only)

  1. Ensure vehicle is in Park. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester, or equivalent scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) located below center of instrument panel. Retrieve and note continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform Driver's Seat Module (DSM) self-test. During self-test note when memory set LED lights and turns off. If any DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See TEST G DTC TEST INDEX  table. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If memory set LED fails to light during self-test, go to step  5 .

    (1) Replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system.
  2. Observe DSM PIDs MEM1_SW, MEM2_SW and MEMS_SW while activating seat switch. If PID values agree with switch positions, go to step  9 . If PID values do not agree with switch positions and central junction box fuse No. 4 (15-amp) blows while operating memory set switch, go to step  7 . If PID values do not agree with switch positions and central junction box fuse No. 4 is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check memory set switch. See MEMORY SET SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. If switch is okay, go to next step. If switch is faulty, replace memory set switch.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between memory set switch connector terminal No. 1 (Orange/Light Green wire) and ground. See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair Orange/Light Green wire.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between memory set switch connector terminal No. 8 (Black/Light Blue wire) and ground. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire.
  6. Disconnect DSM 22-pin connector C356. Disconnect Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module 22-pin connector located behind left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between indicated memory set switch connector terminals and ground. See MEMORY SET SWITCH TEST TERMINALS  table. See Fig 1 . If there is any voltage, repair short to power in appropriate wire(s). If there is no voltage, go to next step.

  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between indicated memory set switch connector terminals and ground. See MEMORY SET SWITCH TEST TERMINALS  table. See Fig 1 . If each resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in appropriate wire(s).
  8. Measure resistance between indicated memory set switch connector terminals and indicated DSM connector C356 terminals. See MEMORY SET SWITCH & DSM TEST TERMINALS  table. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . If each resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If any resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in appropriate wire(s).

  9. Using seat control switch, place seat in central position. Observe DSM PIDs SFWD_P while operating seat control forward/rearward switch, SFNT_P while operating seat control front up/down switch and SREAR_P while operating seat control rear up/down switch. If PID values (position percentage of travel) increase with forward/down movement and decrease with rearward/up movement throughout entire travel, replace DSM. See DRIVER'S SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If PID SFWD_P values do not increase or decrease, go to step  16 . If PID SFNT_P values do not increase or decrease, go to next step. If PID SREAR_P values do not increase or decrease, go to step  13 .
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect DSM 16-pin connector C351. Disconnect front height position sensor 3-pin connector located under driver's seat.
