Symptom Checks

Perform the following:

• Perform QUICK TEST. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC -IV article below. If code is present, perform appropriate CIRCUIT TEST.
• Check power to MAP/BARO sensor. See step 3) of CIRCUIT TEST S in appropriate TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV article below.
• TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (3.0L)
• TESTS W/CODES - EEC-IV (4.0L)
• Check ignition system. See IGNITION SYSTEMS in appropriate appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article below.
• Check fuel delivery system. See FUEL SYSTEM in appropriate appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article below.
• SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (3.0L)
• SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - EEC-IV (4.0L)
• Check for restricted exhaust system.
• Ensure engine operates at normal operating temperature.
• Check air intake system. Ensure throttle plate and linkages operate properly.
• Check engine mechanical condition. Check compression, camshaft, valve train components, etc.
• Ensure transmission is functioning properly.
• Check for binding/dragging brakes.
• Ensure A/C turns off during Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
• Check customer driving habits.
