A/C Cycling Switch (ACCS)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

A/C cycling switch (ACCS) is a compressor clutch cycling switch controlled by refrigeration system pressure. ACCS is mounted on top of suction accumulator-drier. Switch fitting on accumulator-drier uses a Schrader valve stem to allow easy removal of ACCS without loss of refrigerant.

Switch contacts will open when suction pressure is 25-27 psi (1.8-1.9kg/cm2 ) and will close when suction pressure reaches 40-47 psi (2.8-3.3 kg/cm2 ). On 3.8L SC, when switch contacts close/open, this signals EATC assembly to energize/de-energize compressor clutch by providing input to Variable Control Relay Module (VCRM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

When EATC system is working properly, switch will control evaporator core refrigerant pressure to maintain evaporator surface temperature slightly warmer than freezing. This will prevent evaporator ice-up and airflow blockage.
