Windshield wipers are actuated by a permanent magnet, rotary-type electric motor. The 2 wiper arms and blades are mounted on pivot shafts at each side of windshield.

Aerostar uses standard and interval wipers with an instrument panel mounted control switch. The Bronco II and Ranger are equipped only with the interval wiper/washer system and a steering column mounted control switch. The circuit is protected by a separate 6-amp circuit breaker that is located at fuse block.

Aerostar and Bronco II rear window wiper system consists of a motor mounted inside liftgate, articulating arm and blade assembly, instrument panel mounted control switch, and in-line circuit breaker.

The 2-speed wiper motor has 3 brushes. When control switch is in Low position, grounded brush and White wire brush are used. When in High position, grounded brush and Blue/Orange wire brush are used. This by-passes part of the armature winding.

When control switch is placed in Park position, motor will continue through one low speed revolution until park switch center contact moves to park ground contact. This will dynamically stop the motor in the Park position.
