Description And Operation

DESCRIPTION 

A damper with a wide operating angle and low rigidity has been adopted in the torque converter of the automatic transmission to increase the lock-up range by suppressing the Noise, Vibration And Harshness (NVH). As a result, lock-up can be performed from 2nd gear, where it was conventionally possible from 5th gear, providing direct shift feel and improved fuel economy.

The assembly is composed of 4 multi-plate clutches, 4 multi-disc brakes, 4 one-way clutches and 3 planetary gear assemblies: front, central and rear.

Brake/clutch  Movement 
C1 clutch Engages the input shaft and the intermediate shaft via clutch F4 one-way.
C2 clutch Engages the input shaft and the central spider.
C3 clutch Engages the input shaft and the front sun gear.
C4 clutch Engages the input shaft and the intermediate shaft.
B1 brake Blocks rotation of the front spider.
B2 brake Blocks rotation of the front and central annular gears.
B3 brake Blocks the external annular gear of the one-way clutch F2.
B4 brake Blocks rotation of the rear annular gear.
F1 one-way clutch Blocks counter-clockwise rotation of the front spider on the gearbox.
F2 one-way clutch Blocks counter-clockwise rotation of the front sun gear during operation of B3 brake.
F3 one-way clutch Blocks counter-clockwise rotation of the rear annular gear.
Blocks counter-clockwise rotation of the central spider.
F4 one-way clutch Blocks counter-clockwise rotation of the intermediate shaft during operation of clutch C1.

Valve Body 

The valve bodies supply oil thanks to solenoid valves that switch the pressurized oil circuit from the oil pump. The solenoid valves are activated by control signals from the TCM to regulate the hydraulic pressure on the brakes and clutches, changing the gears and activating the lock-up clutch on the torque converter. In addition, a quantity of oil is sent to the torque converter, to the parts to be lubricated and the planetary gear assemblies.
