Vehicle Drive Cycle For DTC P0420

  1. Ensure following conditions exist when performing vehicle drive cycle.
    • Outside Air Temperature Is At Least 14°F (-10°C)
    • Shift Lever Is In Drive (A/T Models)
    • Overdrive Switch Is In ON Position (A/T Models)
    • Power/Economy Switch Is In POWER Range (A/T Models)
    • A/C Switch Is In OFF Position
  2. Start engine and quickly accelerate to 45-60 MPH with throttle opening at approximately 50-100 percent (1/2 throttle to full throttle). On M/T models, transaxle should be in 5th gear. On all models, drive vehicle for at least 5 minutes at 45-60 MPH with throttle opening at approximately 50 percent (1/2 throttle). Decelerate until vehicle speed is 35-40 MPH. On M/T models, transaxle should be in 4th gear when decelerating.
  3. Drive vehicle at 35-40 MPH with throttle opening at approximately 50 percent (1/2 throttle) for at least 90 seconds on level surface while maintaining a constant throttle opening and vehicle speed. Fully close throttle, allowing vehicle to decelerate. Braking may be allowed during deceleration. After vehicle has constantly decelerated for 10 seconds, quickly accelerate back to 35-40 MPH with throttle opening at approximately 50 percent (1/2 throttle).
  4. Repeat step 3) at least 6 more times. Decelerate to a stop. Turn ignition off.
