Vehicle Drive Cycle For DTC P0170

  1. Ensure following conditions exist when performing vehicle drive cycle.
    • Engine Coolant Temperature Is At Least 176°F (80°C)
    • Outside Air Temperature Is At Least 14°F (-10°C), But Less Than 140°F (60°C)
    • Shift Lever Is In Drive (A/T Models)
    • Overdrive Switch Is In ON Position (A/T Models)
    • Power/Economy Switch Is In POWER Range (A/T Models)
    • A/C Switch Is In OFF Position
  2. After engine is at normal operating temperature, turn ignition off. Start engine and accelerate to 55-60 MPH with throttle opening at approximately 50 percent (half throttle). On M/T models, transaxle should be in 5th gear.
  3. Drive vehicle at 55-60 MPH for at least 30 minutes while slightly decelerating and slightly accelerating so vehicle speed remains between 55-60 MPH. DO NOT drive at a constant and continuous vehicle speed for more than 2 minutes during this time. Avoid doing sudden decelerating or accelerating while driving vehicle. Decelerate to a stop. Turn ignition off.
