Test NS-5A - Fuel Injector Control Circuit & Ignition Coil Control Circuit

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at end of article.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Direct Ignition System (DIS) ignition coil connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB-II, actuate fuel system. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
  2. Probe ignition coil connector terminal No. 4 (Dark Green/Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Green/Red wire between Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay and injector connectors. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. ASD relay is located in power distribution center, in engine compartment. See Fig 1 .
  3. If voltage is less than 10 volts in step 2), disconnect injector No. 1 connector. See Figure . Using DRB-II, actuate fuel system. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
  4. Probe injector connector terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Dark Green/Red wire between Direct Ignition System (DIS) coil and ASD relay connectors. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC). Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1.
