Diagnosis And Testing - Shift Interlock System: Notes

1 - LOCK
2 - ACC
3 - ON
4 - START

If the shifter cannot be shifted out of Park or can be shifted out of Park without depressing the brake pedal, follow diagnostics procedure below.

  1. Engage the parking brake.
  2. Connect the Wi-Tech scan tool to the vehicle.
  3. Check for any DTCs that relate to the "Brake Switch or Brake Transmission Shift Interlock" in the WCM (wireless control module), PCM (powertrain control module) and TIPM (totally integrated power module).
  4. For all Diagnostic Trouble Codes, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure(s) and verification procedures according to Tech Connect.
  5. Continue to step 6 if shifter still shows condition, otherwise stop and perform the Final Verification Test at the end of this procedure.
  6. Using Wi-Tech, under the WCM module in the "Data" screen check for change in state of the following signals. If no change in state then perform corresponding circuit repairs:
    1. "Gated park switch". Push and release button on shifter knob.
    2. "BTSI feedback". Push and release brake pedal.
    3. "Brake switch". Push and release brake pedal.
    4. If change in state occurs in steps 6a, 6b, 6c then using Wi-Tech under the WCM module in the "Actuation" screen, actuate BTSI. (If shifter can now be released then follow a), (Otherwise b)
    5. Refer to the appropriate transmission in "System Shift Interlock" and check for mechanical shifter issues.
    6. Go To 1.

Final Verification Testing: 

ACTION EXPECTED RESPONSE
1. With the Fobik removed, try to shift out of "PARK". 1. Shifter cannot be shifted out of "PARK".
2. Insert the Fobik into the WIN and leave it at "LOCK." Try to move the shifter out of "Park". 2. Shifter cannot be shifted out of "PARK".
3. Turn Fobik to the "ON" position, with foot off of brake pedal. 3. Shifter CANNOT be shifted out of "PARK".
4. Turn Fobik to the "ON" position and depress the brake pedal. 4. Shifter CAN be shifted out of "PARK".
5. Leave shifter in any gear other than "PARK" and try to return Fobik to the "LOCK" position. 5. Fobik cannot fully return to "LOCK" and cannot be removed.
6. Return shifter to "PARK" and try to remove the Fobik. 6. Fobik can be removed.
