Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK IF DTC IS CURRENT
    1. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
    2. Record the Environmental Data and any DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC reset?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Go To  3
  2. CHECK IF (T421, T194, T423, AND T192) SHIFTER POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS ARE SHORTED TOGETHER
    1. Turn the Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect the TCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the Shifter Position Sensor harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance between each (T421, T194, T423, and T192) Shifter Position Sensor circuit for a short to each other at the Shifter Position sensor harness connector.

Are any of the Shifter Position Sensor circuits shorted to each other?

      Yes

      • Repair the Shifter Position Sensor circuits for a short to each other.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

        .

      No

      • Replace the Shifter Position Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
      • If necessary, perform the appropriate TRANSMISSION COMPONENT RELEARN PROCEDURE in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to TRANSMISSION COMPONENT RELEARN PROCEDURES .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

If the DTC resets, use the schematics as a guide and check the Transmission Control Module (TCM) terminals and connectors for corrosion, damage or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the TCM and perform programming procedures.

Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL, REMOVAL .

  3. CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
    1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
    2. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
    3. Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
    4. Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were there any problems found?

      Yes

      No

      • Test complete.
