Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR ACTIVE INTERNAL FAULTS, IGNITION FAULTS, AND BATTERY FAULTS IN THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION MODULE (OCM) NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.
Does the scan tool display any active DTCs relating to internal faults, ignition faults, or battery faults?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate DTC. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Occupant Classification (OCM) - Diagnosis and Testing .
No
- Go to step 2
- With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.
- VERIFY THAT DTC B1B8D-DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW IS ACTIVE
Does the scan tool display active: B1B8D-DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC?
Yes
- Go to step 3
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
- INSPECT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT WIRING AND CONNECTORS WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the Driver and Passenger Seat wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
Are any of these conditions present?
Yes
- Replace the damaged wiring in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.No
- Go to step 4
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the Driver and Passenger Seat wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
- VERIFY DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT WIRING CORRECTLY ROUTED
- Verify Driver and Passenger Seat wiring harness is routed correctly.
Is the seat wiring routed correctly?
Yes
- Go to step 5
No
- Reroute the seat wiring as necessary.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
- Verify Driver and Passenger Seat wiring harness is routed correctly.
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between cavity 1 and Cavity 2 of the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connectorWARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.
- With the scan tool, read OCM DTC.
Does the scan tool display active: B1B8F-DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT OPEN DTC?
Yes
- Go to step 13
No
- Go to step 6
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR SHORT TO GROUND WARNING: Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1 and ground.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 2 and ground.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms on either circuit?
Yes
- Go to step 7
No
- Go to step 10
- VERIFY OCM DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect the OCM C1 connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1 and ground.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 2 and ground.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms on either circuit?
Yes
- Go to step 8
No
- Replace the OCM in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
WARNING: If the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury.CAUTION: Disconnecting or connecting the OCM connectors with the battery connected permanently damages the OCM.
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect the C311 body harness to Passenger Seat connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1 and ground.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 2 and ground.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms on either circuit?
Yes
- Go to step 9
No
- Replace the Passenger Seat wiring in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT CIRCUITS SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect the C310 body harness to Driver Seat connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1 and ground.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 2 and ground.
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms on either circuit?
Yes
- Replace the Driver Seat wiring in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.No
- Replace the Body wiring harness between the Driver and Passenger Seat in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.
- VERIFY OPEN SEAT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUITS
- Disconnect the OCM C1 connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the OCM C1 connector cavity 10 and the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 1.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the OCM C1 connector cavity 9 and the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor connector cavity 2.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms on both circuits?
Yes
- Go to step 13
No
- Go to step 11
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR PASSENGER SEAT WIRING
- Disconnect the C311 body harness to Passenger Seat connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the OCM C1 connector cavity 10 and the C311 (seat side) connector cavity 4.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the OCM C1 connector cavity 9 and the C311 (seat side) connector cavity 3.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms on both circuits?
Yes
- Replace the Passenger seat wiring in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.No
- Go to step 12
- VERIFY DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR BODY WIRING
- Disconnect the C310 body harness to Driver Seat connector.
- Measure the (R261) Driver Seat Position Sensor Data circuit resistance between the C311 (body side) connector cavity 4 and the C310 (body side) connector cavity 1.
- Measure the (R263) Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit resistance between the C311 (body side) connector cavity 3 and the C310 (body side) connector cavity 2.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms on both circuits?
Yes
- Replace the body wiring harness between the C311 (body side) connector and C310 (body side) connector in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.No
- Replace the Driver Seat wiring harness in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
NOTE: Do not attempt to repair the seat wiring.
- CHECK OPERATION OF THE DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR
- Replace the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor.
- Reconnect all disconnected components except the battery.WARNING: Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector - use the most current software available.
- Use the scan tool and erase all codes in the OCM.
- Turn the Ignition Off, and wait 15 seconds before turning the Ignition On.
- Wait one minute, and read active codes.
Did the active B1B8D-DRIVER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the OCM in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the OCM REZERO. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .

- Repair is complete.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to DTC-Based Diagnostics/CONTROLLER, Occupant Restraint (ORC) - Standard Procedure .
