Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK IF THE DTC RESETS
WARNING: On vehicles equipped with the high voltage system, you must thoroughly read and follow all High Voltage Safety procedures. In addition, before performing any diagnostic or service procedure near a high voltage component, you must perform the High Voltage Power Down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Refer to Electrical/Battery System - Warning
    1. With the scan tool, read and record the Environmental Data for all DTCs.
    2. Erase the DTC and using the Environmental Data recorded earlier, test drive the vehicle while trying to duplicate the conditions in which the DTC originally set.

      Does the DTC reset?

      Yes

    2. Disconnect the Output Speed Sensor harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on to the run position.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (T378) Output Speed Sensor Supply circuit.

Is the voltage between 6.0 to 12.0 volts?

      Yes

      • Go to step  5

      No

    GC0106962Courtesy of CHRYSLER LLC
    1. Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
    2. Disconnect the Transmission C2 harness connector and connect the 24 Pin Jumper harness 10155 to the Transmission C2 connector of the transmission.
CAUTION: When performing circuit testing, use the appropriate test leads from the Dedicated Test Leads 10159. Probing the vehicle harness connectors or the jumper harness connectors will damage the terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection.
    3. Turn the ignition on to the run position.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (T378) Output Speed Sensor Supply circuit.

Is the voltage between 6.0 to 12.0 volts?

      Yes

      No

      • Go to step  4
  4. CHECK THE (T378) OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR SUPPLY CIRCUIT AT THE TEHCM
Fig 3: Checking Output Speed Sensor Circuit
    GC0106963Courtesy of CHRYSLER LLC
    1. Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
    2. Remove the transmission oil pan and disconnect the Output Speed Sensor internal connector to the TCM.

      Yes

      No

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Transmission Electro Hydraulic Control Module (TEHCM) connectors and terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins and Service Information Updates for possible causes that may apply. Verify that the TCM is equipped with the latest software and is properly programmed. If no problems are found, replace and program the TEHCM in accordance with the Service Information. Using the scan tool, perform the Resolver Offset Learn Trigger procedure.
      • Perform 2-MODE HYBRID TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. See DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Transmission Electronic Hydraulic Control (TEHCM) - Standard Procedure .
  5. CHECK THE (T14) OUTPUT SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Fig 4: Checking Output Speed Sensor Circuit
    GC0106964Courtesy of CHRYSLER LLC
    1. Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
    2. Disconnect the Transmission C2 harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (T14) Output Speed Signal circuit.

Is the resistance below 100k Ohms?

      Yes

      No

      • Go to step  6
  6. CHECK THE (T14) OUTPUT SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Fig 5: Checking Output Speed Sensor Circuit
    GC0106965Courtesy of CHRYSLER LLC
    1. Measure the resistance of the (T14) Output Speed Signal circuit between the Output Speed Sensor harness connector and the Transmission C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm?

      Yes

      • Go to step  7

      No

  7. CHECK THE (T14) OUTPUT SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
Fig 6: Checking Output Speed Sensor Circuit
    GC0106966Courtesy of CHRYSLER LLC
    1. Turn the ignition on to the run position.
    2. Measure the voltage of the (T14) Output Speed Signal circuit.
