Rear Wiper Always On
Possible Causes:
- Rear Wiper Relay.
- Rear Wiper Relay Ground circuit short to voltage.
- Rear Wiper Relay Control circuit short to voltage.
- Rear Wiper Motor Control circuit short to voltage.
- Rear Wiper Switch - A/C-Heater Control Module.
- CTM.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE:
Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.

Testing:
- Turn ignition off. Substitute a known-good relay in place of Rear Wiper Relay in the PDC. Turn ignition on. Operate Rear Wipers in all modes. Do Rear Wipers operate properly? If yes, replace Rear Wiper Relay. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove Wiper Relay. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, probe Rear Wiper Relay harness connector terminal No. 87A. Does test light illuminate Brightly? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair Rear open in Wiper Relay Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect CTM C3 harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and CTM C3 harness connector terminal No. 9. Is there any voltage present? If yes, repair Rear Wiper Relay Control circuit for a short to voltage. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect CTM C3 harness connector. Disconnect Rear Wiper Motor harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and Rear Wiper Motor harness connector terminal No. 3. Is there any voltage present? If yes, repair Rear Wiper Motor Control circuit for a short to voltage. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect Rear Wiper Motor harness connector. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Turn Rear Wiper Switch off. Using DRBIII(R), select WIPER SYSTEM MONITORS, then read REAR WIPER state. Does DRBIII(R) display REAR WIPER: OFF? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace Rear Wiper Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Remove Rear Wiper Relay. Turn ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, probe Rear Wiper Relay harness connector terminal No. 85. Turn on Rear Wiper. Does test light illuminate brightly? If yes, test is complete. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- If there are no possible causes remaining, replace CTM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
