Front Blower Motor Inoperative
Possible Causes:
- PDC Fuse No. 13.
- Blower Motor Feed circuit shorted to ground.
- Fused B+ circuit shorted to ground.
- Blower Motor shorted to ground.
- Ground circuit open.
- A/C-Heater Control Module open.
- Blower Motor Driver circuit open.
- Resistor - Hi Blower Motor Driver open.
- Blower Motor Common Driver circuit open.
- Blower Motor.
- Blower Motor Fused B+ circuit open.
- Ignition Switch open.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE:
Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.

Testing:
- Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect PDC Fuse No. 13. Is the fuse open? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 5 .
- Replace PDC Fuse No. 13. Turn the ignition on. Turn the Blower on and operate it in all speeds and modes. Does the Blower Motor operate properly without blowing the fuse? If yes, check the Blower Motor Feed circuit and the Fused B+ circuit for an intermittent short to ground. Repair as necessary. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Blower Motor harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and the Blower Motor harness connector terminal No. 1. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair the Blower Motor Feed circuit for a short to ground and replace fuse. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Reconnect the Blower Motor harness connector. Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Ignition Switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Is resistance less than 10,000 ohms? If yes, repair the Fused B+ circuit for a short to ground and replace fuse. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, replace Blower Motor and fuse. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Reinstall fuse. Disconnect the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, backprobe the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector terminal No. 2. Does the test light illuminate brightly? if yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9 .
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector. Disconnect the A/C-Heater Control Module C3 harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between ground and the A/C-Heater Control Module C3 harness connector terminal No. 1. Turn ignition on. Does the Blower Motor run at high speed? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and the A/C-Heater Control Module C3 harness connector terminal No. 4. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace A/C-Heater Control Module. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, repair open in Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector. Measure resistance between the A/C-Heater Control Module C3 harness connector terminal No. 1 and the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector terminal No. 1. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, replace Blower Motor Resistor Block. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, repair open in the High Blower Motor Driver circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Blower Motor harness connector. Measure resistance between the Blower Motor harness connector terminal No. 2 and the Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector terminal No. 2. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in the Blower Motor Common Driver circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Reconnect Blower Motor Resistor Block harness connector. Turn the ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe Blower Motor harness connector terminal No. 1. Does the test light illuminate brightly? If yes, replace Blower Motor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect the Blower Motor harness connector. Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the Ignition Switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Does the test light illuminate brightly? If yes, replace Ignition Switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, repair open in Fused B+ circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
