Chime Sounds With Driver Seat Belt Fastened

Possible Causes:

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting or connecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module.
NOTE: Ensure vehicle being tested has a fully charged battery. If it does not, false symptoms may occur.
NOTE: For component location, see appropriate illustration under COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For terminal identification, see appropriate illustration under CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For circuit and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For component removal and installation procedures, see appropriate component under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .

Testing:

  1. Turn ignition off. Ensure Driver Seat Belt is fastened. Connect DRBIII(R) to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), select ELECTRO MECH CLUSTER INPUT/OUTPUTS, then read Seat Belt Switch state. Does the DRBIII(R) display SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED? If yes, replace Instrument Cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Turn all interior lights off. Disconnect the Driver Seat Belt Switch harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Seat Belt Switch harness connector terminal No. 2. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in Seat Belt Switch Ground circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Connect a jumper wire across Seat Belt Switch harness connector terminals. Turn ignition on. Using the DRBIII(R), select ELECTRO MECH CLUSTER INPUT/OUTPUTS, then read Seat Belt Switch state. Does the DRBIII(R) display SEAT BELT SWITCH: CLOSED? If yes, repair Seat Belt Switch pigtail wiring or replace Seat Belt Switch (Seat Belt Retractor Assembly). Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If no, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove Instrument Cluster. Measure resistance between Instrument Cluster C2 harness connector terminal No. 3 and Seat Belt Switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Is resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in Seat Belt Driver circuit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace Instrument Cluster. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
