Door Lock Switch Failure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Dodge Ram Wagon and 2000 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
NOTE:
Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any previously disconnected components and connectors.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Central Timer Module (CTM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with CTM and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with CTM and/or PCM, perform NO RESPONSE FROM CTM and/or NO RESPONSE FROM PCM (CCD) test(s) under COMMUNICATIONS.
- Using scan tool, record and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Using scan tool, read POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH status. If scan tool displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, go to step 6.
- Gain access to and disconnect driver's power door lock switch connector. Using scan tool, read POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH status. If scan tool displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, replace driver's power door lock switch.
- Gain access to and disconnect passenger's power door lock switch connector. Using scan tool, read POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH status. If scan tool displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED, replace passenger's power door lock switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) C2 White connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage on CTM C2 White connector terminal No. 4, door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, repair short to voltage in Orange/Violet wire. If voltage is 1.5 volts or less, replace CTM.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor POWER DOOR LOCK SW status. Press driver's power door lock switch to lock position, then release. Press passenger's power door lock switch to lock position, then release. If scan tool displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED with both power door lock switches pressed, system is currently functioning properly. If scan tool displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED only with driver's power door lock switch pressed, go to next step. If scan displays POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED only with passenger's power door lock switch pressed, go to step 8. If scan tool does not display POWER DOOR LOCK SW: PRESSED with either power door lock switch pressed, go to step 11.
- Gain access to and disconnect passenger's power door lock switch connector. Check voltage on passenger's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, go to step 14. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, repair open Red wire.
- Gain access to and disconnect driver's power door lock switch connector. Check voltage on driver's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, go next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, repair open Red wire.
- Ensure driver's power door lock switch connector is connected. Check voltage on driver's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 1, driver's door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). Press driver's power door lock switch to lock position while monitoring voltage. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts while pressing driver's power door lock switch, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less while pressing driver's power door lock switch, replace driver's power door lock switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect CTM C2 White connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage on CTM C2 White connector terminal No. 4, power door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, replace CTM. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, repair open Orange/Violet wire.
- Gain access to and disconnect driver's power door lock switch connector. Check voltage on driver's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, repair open Red wire.
- Gain access to and disconnect passenger's power door lock switch connector. Check voltage on passenger's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 3, fused B+ circuit (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, repair open Red wire.
- Ensure driver's power door lock switch connector is connected. Check voltage on driver's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 1, driver's door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). Press driver's power door lock switch to lock position while monitoring voltage. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts while pressing driver's power door lock switch, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less while pressing driver's power door lock switch, replace driver's power door lock switch.
- Ensure passenger's power door lock switch connector is connected. Check voltage on passenger's power door lock switch connector terminal No. 1, passenger's door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). Press passenger's power door lock switch to lock position while monitoring voltage. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts while pressing passenger's power door lock switch, go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less while pressing passenger's power door lock switch, replace passenger's power door lock switch.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) C2 White connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage on CTM C2 White connector terminal No. 4, power door lock switch output lock circuit (Orange/Violet wire). See Figure. Press passenger's power door lock switch to lock position while monitoring voltage. If voltage is more than 10.5 volts while pressing passenger's power door lock switch, replace CTM. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less while pressing passenger's power door lock switch, repair open Orange/Violet wire.
