Bus Bias Level Too High

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Dodge Ram Wagon and 2000 Dodge Ram Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS after each repair.
NOTE: Unless instructed otherwise in test step, reconnect any previously disconnected components and connectors.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, check voltage between ground and DLC terminals No. 3, CCD bus (+) circuit (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 11, CCD bus (-) circuit (White/Black wire). See Figure. If voltage is 1.8-2.8 volts on both circuits, repair or replace scan tool cable as necessary. If voltage is not 1.8-2.8 volts on both circuits, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - RAM VAN & RAM WAGON article. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of CCD bus (+) circuit (Violet/Brown wire) between DLC terminal No 3 and instrument cluster C1 Green connector terminal No. 10. See Figure. Check resistance of CCD bus (-) circuit (White/Black wire) between DLC terminal No. 11 and instrument cluster C1 connector terminal No. 9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both circuits, leave instrument cluster removed and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more on either circuit, repair open Violet/Brown and/or White/Black wire(s).
  3. Ensure interior lights are off. Check, clean and repair instrument cluster connectors as necessary. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster C1 connector terminals No. 10, CCD bus (+) circuit (Violet/Brown wire) and No. 11, CCD bus (-) circuit (White/Black wire). If resistance is less than 1000 ohms on either circuit, repair short to ground in Violet/Brown and/or White/Black wire(s). If resistance is 1000 ohms or more on both circuits, leave instrument cluster removed and go to next step.
  4. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and instrument cluster C1 connector terminal No. 4, ground circuit (Black/Dark Green wire) and between ground and instrument cluster C2 Blue connector terminal No. 7 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms on both circuit, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is 5 ohms or more on either circuit, repair open Black/Dark Green and/or Black wire(s).
