Test NTC-13: Checking Pcm Power & Ground Circuits

NOTE: For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. PCM is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel.
  2. Using 12-volt test light, check for voltage at terminal No. 22 (Red/White wire) on PCM connector C1. This fused B+ circuit to PCM. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open or high resistance between battery, fuse No. 1 (20-amp) and Red/White wire between fuse No. 1, joint connector No. 2 and PCM as necessary. Fuse No. 1 and joint connector No. 2 are located in power distribution center at driver's side of engine compartment, near battery. See Figure . Perform TEST VER-1  .
  3. Ensure PCM connectors are still disconnected. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using 12-volt test light, check for voltage at terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Black wire) on PCM connector C1. This is the fused ignition switch output circuit at PCM. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open or high resistance between ignition switch, fuse No. 9 (10-amp) and Light Green/Black wire between fuse No. 9 and PCM as necessary. Fuse No. 9 is located in junction block on end of driver's side of instrument panel, near door opening. Perform TEST VER-1  .
  4. Turn ignition off. Ensure PCM connectors are still disconnected. Using 12-volt test light connected to battery voltage, check for voltage at terminals No. 31 (Black/Tan wire) and No. 32 (Black/Tan wire) on PCM connector C1. These are the ground circuits for PCM. If test light illuminates brightly, test is complete. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open or high resistance on Black/Tan wire between PCM and ground connection. Ground connection is located on passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender near rear of PCM. Perform TEST VER-1  .
