Test NTC-8: Checking Intake Air Temperature Sensor

NOTE: When performing this test, DO NOT allow more than 5 minutes between measuring temperature of intake air temperature sensor with scan tool and measuring the air temperature on inside of intake manifold with temperature probe.
  1. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, measure and record temperature of intake air temperature sensor. Turn ignition off.
  2. Note location of Intake Air Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure (IAT/MAP) sensor on intake manifold. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . Remove IAT/MAP sensor from intake manifold. Using temperature probe, quickly measure air temperature on inside of intake manifold through the IAT/MAP sensor opening on intake manifold.

  3. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, IAT/MAP sensor is okay. Test is complete. If temperature of intake air temperature sensor on scan tool is not within 10 degrees of temperature obtained on temperature probe, replace IAT/MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
